M. Sue Preston, President and Chief Executive Officer, joined Arriva in 2004 as Vice President of Regulatory and Quality, taking responsibility for the development of the company’s global regulatory and quality activities. Ms. Preston has more than 20 years of experience in implementing novel regulatory and quality strategies for timely product approvals. Prior to joining Arriva, Ms. Preston held senior management positions at Chiron Corporation, Alpha Therapeutic Corporation, and Baxter Healthcare, and also spent 14 years at the National Institutes of Health and US Food and Drug Administration. She received her BA from Lycoming College and did graduate work in biochemistry and physiology at the University of Maryland. Philip J. Barr, PhD, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer, is the former Director of Molecular Biology at Chiron Corporation. Prior to founding Arriva in 1997, Dr. Barr held several senior management and consultancy positions in the biotechnology industry. He co-edited the first book on yeast genetic engineering and has co-authored over 180 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Barr is an inventor on over 50 issued U.S. patents, and is an adjunct professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco. Philip A. Pemberton, PhD, Chief Technical Officer, is responsible for the design and implementation of process development and manufacturing strategies, and directing preclinical studies at Arriva. He joined the company in 2000 with eighteen years of experience in research and preclinical development of protease inhibitors and recombinant proteins. Prior to Arriva, Dr. Pemberton held positions at BioMarin Pharmaceuticals, LXR Biotechnology Inc., and Harvard Medical School. He received his doctorate from the University of Cambridge, England. David Madden, Chief Financial Officer, has over fifteen years' experience in finance, development and management. Prior to joining Arriva in 2007, Mr. Madden held positions at Chiron Corporation, PG&E Enterprises and elsewhere. He completed five acquisitions including the $900 million PowderJect acquisition for Chiron, six life sciences licensing deals, and two generation equity investments for PG&EE. Mr. Madden received his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and his M.B.A. from the University of Washington. |
